This year MIKIZTLI: Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) opened up its celebration to its attendees by honoring the sacred grounds of Indian Steele Park because of its Indigenous and Native American history. The Yolloincuauhtil Aztec Dancers perform La Danza Azteca during the Dia de Los Muertos celebration to acknowledge the land where the celebration of life and death is taking place. In addition, the festival also honors the passing of loved ones by creating a community altar for anyone to leave a picture of those that have passed from this life; essentially keeping their memory and stories of their life alive.
